NY-23 Special Election — Second Amendment and Guns

NY-23 Special Election, Aug 23, 2003. The Democratic Party candidate is Max Della Pia. The Republican Party candidate is Joe Sempolinski. Max is also running in the November General Election, Joe is not.

Joe’s view from his website:

Joe is pro-2nd amendment. Joe is a SCOPE and NRA member and a gun owner. The right to bear arms is a fundamental, individual, human and Constitutional right. Joe supports interstate reciprocity for gun permits. At the state level, the NY SAFE ACT should never have become law.

Max’s view from his website:

As a veteran I believe in the value of the 2nd amendment. However, with gun rights should come great responsibility and common-sense gun policy:

Background checks should be quick, mandatory, electronic, well-funded, widely available, and searchable across the state lines. Folks need to train to safely handle firearms. Firearms should be properly and safely stored; should an individual cause harm to another person (a child for example), that failure should come with consequences equal to the harm caused. I value lives over lobbyists.

Be informed! Vote Aug. 23rd!

Note: Voters registered in the current NY-23 district vote in the special election. Consult your Board of Elections if you have questions about eligibility to vote.
