Tom Reed’s archive of press releases document his evolving views on government shutdown. I have cited a few examples below.
In the past when Tom was a deficit hawk, he demanded spending cuts as the price of avoiding a shutdown. He advocated measures to reduce the impact of a shutdown on the armed forces and other favored causes. He pointed the finger of blame at President Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reed. He said he would forego his pay during a shutdown, but he didn’t do that.
More recently, posing as a “problem solver,” Tom says he favors clean appropriation bills, clean increase in the debt ceiling, and opposes government shutdown. Has he evolved into a good government advocate, or is he merely playing partisan politics? You decide.
