Who is Donald, what is he?

bullWho is Silvia? what is she,

That all our swains commend her?

Holy, fair, and wise is she;

The heaven such grace did lend her,

That she might admirèd be.    — William Shakespeare

Reportedly, responsible Republicans, even Tom Reed, beg Trump to tone down his talk, yet he evidently has sided with others who urge continued outrageous behavior. Some have suggested he could do little more to hurt his cause if that were his goal. What next? Surely we have yet to see the end of this.

Who is Donald? What is he,

     That so many dare trust him?

Neither cautious nor wise is he;

     The heaven such gifts denied him;

Was it to make fools of us?

    We can only make fools of ourselves. Those like Tom Reed who have chosen to continue taking the bull by the horns (no pun intended), may well find themselves running after, cleaning up the manure.

    I disagree, Deb. We have one Federal Government and one President. Our Constitution assumes reasonably responsible public officials. If Trump is elected, he makes fools of us all; that would show that our Constitution with its elaborate checks and balances is inadequate to protect us.

  3. Deb Meeker says:

    In some ways the Constitution has already failed to protect us from imbalance. The Patriot Act for one, in some cases states rights (gerrymandering, and lack of individual voting rights protections), no complete women’s ERA – women and minorities are still not equal in the eyes of the Constitution as written and amended. The checks and balances of the Constitution are only served as well as it’s lawmakers, Justices, and President will allow. I do not consider myself a fool when others make these choices for me without my consent; Reed and if elected, Trump are not my choices for good governance. They would continue to shred what’s left of the Constitution. I am only a fool if I vote for them, and their ilk.
    Who is Donald Trump? The leader of the fools.
