The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported on The Honorable Tom Reed’s fake twitter account on which he pretends to be John Plumb, and posts made-up comments that he contributes to Plumb. He follows Donald Trump’s playbook and gives his opponent a nickname: “DC John Plumb”. You can read the article by following this link. Reed’s campaign has also created a fake “DC John Plumb for Congress” Facebook page, and a website with the same name. At least the website has the disclaimer that says “PAID FOR BY TOM REED FOR CONGRESS”.

The Twitter account has been frozen by Twitter, but the Facebook page  and the Website are still active. Each have slanted comments about Plumb’s service to our country, and  the continuing lie about Plumb having only a “vacation” home in our congressional district. (There is only one congressional candidate who has an apartment in Washington, DC, and has a summer home in the NY23rd. According to Steuben County’s assessment roll, “Thomas W Reed II” owns a “seasonal waterfront” residence in the Town of Pulteney.)

Reed says that having the fake twitter account is a “a good use of resources’’.  Most believe it is to divert attention away from his dismal legislation record in his three terms in congress.

Voters want information about each candidate so they can decide who would best represent them in Washington. Seeing that Reed feels the ends (being re-elected to Congress) justifies the means (lying to his constituents) tells the voters volumes about Reed’s standards.
