Tom Reed’s January political postcard

catoOn his January political postcard, mailed at public expense, Tom makes the following claims of accomplishment

  • Rami bill passed and funded.
  • Temporary tax loopholes made permanent
  • “No Child Left Behind” replaced with “Every Student Succeeds Act.”
  • Supports making entry more difficult for refugees.
  • Opposes Iran Nuclear Agreement, supports more military spending.
  • Touts his “Energy Plan” and racetrack repaving.

Tom used the verb fight (fight, fighting, fought) four times on a 8 by 12 postcard. He also claims to have strengthened, defended, and opposed this and that. The word jobs occurs three times in connection with the “Energy Plan,” RAMI,  and extending tax loopholes. The idea that any of these have or could create jobs is tenuous.

Surprisingly, there is no mention of repealing Obamacare or defunding Planned Parenthood. Nor is their mention of income inequality, climate change, clean air and water, fracking, firearm violence, poverty, immigration reform, making higher education affordable, justice for veterans, or opposing intolerance and prejudice.

Note: Tom claims that it cost less than the cost of a stamp to mail his postcard. That may be true, but is irrelevant. Whatever the cost, we the people, not Tom, pay for it.

Tom is a real fighter. He is fighting to take away health care for Americans. He is fighting to lower SSI Disability payments to the disabled. He is fighting to allow fracking which could destroy my well water source and at the same time fighting to make sure I cannot know what chemicals are in the drinking water. He is fighting to deregulate the safe disposal of toxic waste. He is fighting to prevent men, women and children who are fleeing for their lives from ISIS terrorists from entering the USA. He is fighting to keep Iran out of the international community so no one can inspect what they are doing with their facilities. He is fighting for the rich. He is fighting for his ALEC masters.
And every time I get one of his “newsletters” I fight to keep a straight face.

Sadly, Tom Reed appears to believe his own hype. Does that come from living in the ” Washington Bubble” as an insider?
Fortunately, several of Reed’s machinations have failed due to Democratic leadership in New York and at the federal level:
    1) repealing the SAFE ACT. (upheld)
    2) Use of hydraulic fracturing all over the NY state ( banned)
    3) preventing the increase of minimum wages (some federal and local increases are beginning)
    4) the giving away of taxpayer’s money to gas lease cronies (not going forward)

Tom Reed “fights” for those people and groups who stroke his ego and pay him well to not care about his constituent’s true desires and needs.
