The House of Representatives members are in their Summer “District Work” recess. Their last scheduled work day in Washington was July 31, and are scheduled to return to DC on Tuesday, September 8. That’s 39 days.
Rep. Tom Reed has scheduled two of those 39 days to meet with his constituents at four Town Hall Meetings. On Tuesday, August 18, he will visit Waverly (Tioga County) for an evening meeting. On Saturday, August 22 he will be in the John Plumb portion of the district in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.
Rep. Reed’s announcement of these meetings states they are an “opportunity to share their (constituents) opinions on the Iran nuclear agreement, which was recently announced by President Obama.” He wants “to discuss this agreement. It is only fair that I hear from as many people in our district as possible before casting my vote on this agreement.” (He also said that he opposes the deal.)
Fair?
Rep. Reed has already made up his mind. It was made up BEFORE the final deal was announced! He is giving the people who attend his meetings the opportunity to hear his opinion, his own set of facts and basically the GOP talking points. If your opinions differ from his he will hear you, but not listen to you. He will probably tell you that “We will have to agree to disagree.”
The New NY 23rd has posted articles about the negotiated proposed deal, with Iran nuclear agreement, The best reason for rejecting the Iran nuclear agreement and Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand, and Rep. Reed on the Iran Nuclear Arms Deal being the most recent ones.
Other topics that should be presented:
- Mental Illness and firearms, as discussed in Mental Illness, Background Checks, and Social Security and Rep. Reed & Mental Health–Actions Speak Louder Than Words.
- Minimum wages, as discussed in Low wages are no accident.
- Ways to protect Social Security without cutting it as reported in the New NY 23rd’s articles Removing the Payroll Tax Cap & other Social Security Proposals and Saving Social Security.
The New NY 23rd would appreciate any bits of information about what happens at these meetings. We will be scanning the Jamestown and Dunkirk newspapers to see if they cover the Flewsburg (Jamestown) or Sheridan (Dunkirk) meetings. If you are able to attend any of these events, consider dropping us an email (stewartr@roadrunner.com) or a Facebook message and reflect on your experience. Were these issues discussed? What other topics were brought? How many people attended these meetings? Were you satisfied that your voice was heard?
Rep. Reed’s Schedule:
Tuesday, August 18 6:00 PM 32 Ithaca Street Waverly, NY 14892
Saturday, August 22 8:00 AM 5 Main Street Frewsburg, NY 14738
Saturday, August 22 10:30 AM 2883 North Road Findley Lake, NY 14736
Saturday, August 22 1:00 PM 2775 Rte. 20 Sheridan, NY 14135
Saturday, August 22 3:30 PM 14 Main Street Cattaraugus, NY 14719
Thank you for posting the schedule.
You’ve told it as it is here. Tom Reed has no interest in the opinions of constituents who disagree with his closed mind. All the more reason for any one who can attend to do so, and clearly tell Tom Reed – keeping his job is in major jeopardy.

Welcome back Bob. It has been a long time since we’ve heard your pearls of wisdom.
It doesn’t matter what I think on the Iran Nuclear Weapons Deal…but it does matter what our representatives think. Some people look at the facts, and our representative look at the President and automatically says no.

Has Bob made up his mind? What is his opinion and why does he hold it? What would he prefer to the current agreement?
