This graph shows how NY-29/NY-23 election results for 2006-2014 have depended on voter turnout. When the total vote is large, Democratic Party candidates do better and Republican Party candidates do worse. Democrat Eric Massa lost to John Kuhl in 2006 but won in 2008, a Presidential election year, when turnout was 37% higher. Nate Shinagawa came close in 2012, again a Presidential election year. Results for 2008 are at the far right; 2014 results at the far left.
Note: the candidates ran in the 29th district in 2006, 2008, 2010 and in the 23rd district in 2012 and 2014.
