“When I got into this race, people said are you crazy. And I said, ‘Nope, I know we can win this year,’” Astorino said Wednesday in a radio interview. “The climate is right. Our message is right. The issues we believe in, people believe in.” — Rob Astorino
Rob Astorino, Republican Candidate for New York State Governor, has an unlikely campaign strategy. Astorino’s hopes lie in attracting Democrats and independent voters to his cause, so it is astonishing that he seems focused on voters who probably already favor him:
- Those opposed to the SAFE Act
- Those hoping to benefit from fracking
- Those favoring term limits
Choosing Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss for Lt. Gov. was a good move, but Lt. Governors don’t attract much attention before or after an election. Moss isn’t likely to win many votes for Astorino even though Chris may get more votes than Rob.
“The issues we believe in, people believe in;” some people surely, but not those Astorino needs to attract.
Astorino’s chances are slim at best, so it is astonishing that he seems focused on voters already likely to support him rather than those he needs to win.
