What happens to a dream deferred? — Langston Hughes

Is it true that government can do nothing to promote justice or protect the environment, so the best we can hope for is that business, blindly intent on profit, will fill that need? Or can our American government of, by, and for the people take meaningful action to promote the general welfare? Is freedom from want with justice for all a dream that must be deferred while the wealthy accumulate untold riches? How might that end?

so if someone voted against this you would claim they weren’t eco-friendly and if they voted for it you would claim it was aimed at the poor so they couldn’t afford meat , RIGHT ?

First of all define the American dream. To most people it is to accumulate wealth. While you condemn the rich, you are jealous and can’t accept the fact that you failed to become rich yourselves. Get over it ! There may come a time when wealth will just make you a target and the whole system may crumble and money will become worthless. Then, maybe we can start over. 🙂

Bob McGill, you said on a previous post, you don’t care. You stated: “I am smart enough to realize that there is no changing anything, so I’m just sitting back and waiting for the whole country to self destruct.”

Perhaps your dreams were deferred, or bashed. Perhaps you became so bitter, you can’t stand seeing anyone else given an opportunity you yourself missed. Or perhaps you are just a lonely miserable person, who pretends to have all the answers so people will continue to communicate with you. Other people seem to like being able to help their fellow man ( and woman) rather than believe all should suffer, as you may have.
I liked your stated response above, and think it would be in fact great, if you did just “sit back and wait”…quietly.
