Can you believe it?

gopCan you believe what the GOP says they would do if they could? Here is a partial list:

  • Cut Social Security benefits for future retirees. (Tom Reed)
  • Cut Medicare benefits.
  • Repeal Affordable Health Care (Tom Reed)
  • Lower taxes for high income Americans.
  • Lower taxes for corporations.
  • Subsidize giant corporations.
  • Rescind business regulations including banking laws.
  • Allow states to pass unjust election laws.
  • Produce and burn all the non-renewable fuels that can be found.
  • Underfund SNAP
  • Advocate a balanced budget during a recession (Tom Reed)
  • Discriminate against gay citizens.
  • Deny tax credits to small businesses that offer health plans including abortion coverage, as most such plans now do. (H.R. 7)
  • Prohibit the District of Columbia’s use of locally raised revenue to provide abortion care. (H.R.7)
  • Prohibit the EPA from protecting the environment (H.R. 2273 — Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act)
  • Approve indefinite detention of Americans. (NDAA)
  • Refuse to consider Immigration Reform.
  • Refuse to consider firearm regulations favored by a majority of Americans, a majority of firearm owners, and a majority of NRA members.
  • Oppose campaign finance reform.

Here are some even wackier:

  • Default on the National Debt (“We ought to attach something significant for the country to his request to increase the debt ceiling” — McConnell)
  • Shutdown the government, wasting billions.
  • Restrict the census from asking questions beyond the minimum required by the Constitution:  counting noses every ten years.  (HR 1638)
  • Force more spending on the Pentagon than was requested. (Omnibus Budget Bill 2014)
  • Underfund tax law enforcement (to allow more cheating)
  • Require unnecessary paperwork from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding health insurance. (H.R. 3362)

Sad to say, this list could go on and on.

I’d say they’re making a pretty darn good show of doing what is on their lists along with the obstruction of ANYTHING the president had in mind!

I can believe it, because the GOP has already done some of this list, and I believe they would not hesitate to do it all again, and more. What is frightening is that there used to be a, dare I say, normal faction of rank and file Republicans who would be somewhat of a balance to the extremists; this seems to no longer be true. Now it appears the only reason many wish to be elected is for the money and a good lobbying job after they leave office ( bigger amounts of money). Fears of being “primaried’ are paramount, and obviously losing their jobs (and or power) is the only consideration they have on their minds.
